I experience this for 10 years and I like to look back on this time. Therefore is the topic of this essay: How to become a virtuosic actor? That contains on the one hand the question of how to become an expert in the area of acting in general and the other hand how to become an adaptive expert. I want to answer both. First of all will be a summary of the requirements given, which are linked with the satisfaction of the public expectation toward a capable actor in general, and the abilities, which are needed to fulfill the requirements. This way of explanation was chosen, because the point of views among the actors them self relative to what a capable actor is differs with a large degree under each other. Afterwards will be the differences between novices and experts stated. This is to explain, why experts-actors can fulfill the requirements and novices mostly not. In the following will be the differences between experts them self and the reasons for this fact explained, to illustrate why not every expert-actor is a virtuosic one. Building on this will be several conditions and techniques introduced, which are necessary or advisable for becoming an expert-actor in general, like motivation, and an adaptive expert-actor, like learning in several contexts. This essay will be concluded by summarizing the significant information, which will answer the given questions. The mostly facts stated will be illustrated with examples from the field of acting. It should be mentioned that all examples are lend from my own experience. Since the space is limited, this essay does not cover all important aspects of theme, but gives an overview of the issues that were crucial to me toward the field of acting in general.

It was a sad generation that limped past 1865. Almost every family had been touched by death, and many had been torn apart as sons, brothers, and fathers chose different sides in the Civil War. There are tragic failures of Mary Surratt and Dr. Samuel Mudd, as well as Abraham Lincoln, unappreciated by the public until his martyrdom. Lincoln refused security and put himself in harms way. Harm came in the form of John Wilkes Booth, an acclaimed actor, who wanted to save his beloved South and believed there was only one way to accomplish his goal. Booth had grown up with his own demons--depression and odd behavior were part of his family background. His darker side was hate. When the war broke out, Booth took up the southern cause -- the rest of the family sided with the North. Lincoln was a perfect object for Booths hatred. He suspended Habeas Corpus, put many anti-war advocates in jail, continued the war with its grisly pile of human deaths, refused to negotiate a treaty, and wrote Emancipation Proclamation. Booth, who had spent the war in a noncombat position at the behest of his mother, received news of the end of the war with increased anger. Soon it would be too late to become a hero. His hasty and disorganized plan to assassinate Lincoln went awry. Booth did shoot Lincoln, but during his escape he broke his ankle, an injury that slowed him and led to his capture and death. Only the Bible has been written about more than the Civil War, and the assassination of Lincoln is a part of that story. This is that story.

The text is a conversation between the author and himself mediated by the text of Friedrich Nietzsche’s Thus Spoke Zarathustra. The text is a pre-text, a reading both before and after that frames the art work. What is that? Let us say, in the spirit of inquiry, that of knowing thyself. What, then, of this strange hyphenation? The present text is a pre-text because it is before the Text, the text which the author is always writing but which manifests itself, in sporadic, impulsive bursts, in the form of actual works. The book is the pre-text because it is an excuse, a rationale, a piece of pretension. The book is not about Nietzsche but what it is for someone to read Nietzsche’s text, a book for everyone and no one. How then does one read a book meant for oneself, if oneself is everyone, and not at all for oneself, if oneself is none? Or is it that the real task of reading is for the reader to read what reading is? Then again, need one distinguish between book and text? Perhaps, it is impossible to read a book such as Thus Spoke Zarathustra without invoking the text --or even sub-text – that continually slips away. If one can read a book, one cannot the text for this reason: the text is what the reader has to write through the reading. This has been my experience with Nietzsche’s text, an experience I share with my readers. The very possibility of reading invokes the need to re-write the text. Only in the space between reading and writing can the reader/re-writer hope to stand and understand the discursive grounds. Is that the play which this couplet performs? Analyzing a range of South African and West African films inspired by African and non-African literature, Lindiwe Dovey identifies a specific trend in contemporary African filmmaking-one in which filmmakers are using the embodied audiovisual medium of film to offer a critique of physical and psychological violence. Against a detailed history of the medium's savage introduction and exploitation by colonial powers in two very different African contexts, Dovey examines the complex ways in which African filmmakers are preserving, mediating, and critiquing their own cultures while seeking a united vision of the future.
