-- size, productivity and daily survival rates were statistically similar for nests in both pasture types. Mean arthropod abundance was significantly higher on endophyte-positive pastures than on endophyte-negative pastures (70.4 and 47.8 individuals per sample, respectively) (Z = -l.773, df= 25, P = 0.04). The difference in arthropod abundance may have been due to differences in abundance of fescue between the two pasture types. I found that proportion of tall fescue in a pasture was negatively related to arthropod abundance (R2= 0.15; F1,26 = 5.157, P = 0.03). I found no relationship between arthropod abundance and nestling mass at the time of fledging (R2 = 0.10, F3,22 = 0.682, P = 0.57). Even with a greater abundance of food items on endophyte-positive than on endophyte-negative pastures, adult eastern bluebirds showed decreased reproductive potential through smaller egg sizes, and reduced condition of nestlings on endophyte-positive pastures."
