This illustrated guide is unique. Fans of Miami Vice, Scarface, Burn Notice, and 80s Miami movies will appreciate it. The guide will also interest students of Miami history and Art Deco as well as those nostalgic about Miami in the 80s. It explains for the first time that these shows are really a time capsule of long gone Miami scenes. They serve as a record of when Miami was 1980s America on steroids. Burn Notice, an innovative show in its own right, followed Miami Vice's lead. When compared to similar scenes from Vice, recent TV shows reveal the distinctiveness of the 80s. These TV shows also provide a window into today's Miami. The guide shows where views of long gone iconic locations and typical Miami scenes can be found on the DVDs. The value of Miami Vice to South Florida is explained. Personal observations are provided by the author who lived there during the Vice years. All music played on Miami Vice is listed as well as key locations in all Vice, movies, and recent TV episodes.

Boom times came to the forgotten little southwestern town of Chamisaville just as the rest of America was in the Great Depression. They came when a rattletrap bus loaded with stolen dynamite blew sky-high, leaving behind a giant gushing hot spring. Within minutes, the town's wheeler-dealers had organized, and within a year, Chamisaville was flooded with tourists and pilgrims, and the wheeler-dealers were rich. Spanning forty years, The Magic Journey tells the tale of how progress transformed a rural backwater into a boomtown. At first, it was a magic time for Chamisaville—almost as if every day were a holiday. But the euphoria gradually dissipated, and the land-hungry developers, speculators, and interlopers moved in. Finally, the day came when Chamisaville's people found themselves all but displaced, their children no longer heirs to their land or their tradition. With mounting intensity, The Magic Journey reaches a climax that is tragically foreordained. A sensitive, vital, and honest chronicle of life in America's Southwest, it is also an incisive commentary on what America has become on its road to progress. The Magic Journey is part of the New Mexico Trilogy, which includes The Milagro Beanfield War and The Nirvana Blues.

Bursting with cutting-edge speculation and human insight, Cory Doctorow's Down and Out in the Magic Kingdom is a coming-of-age romantic comedy and a kick-butt cybernetic tour de force Jules is a young man barely a century old. He's lived long enough to see the cure for death and the end of scarcity, to learn ten languages and compose three symphonies...and to realize his boyhood dream of taking up residence in Disney World. Disney World! The greatest artistic achievement of the long-ago twentieth century. Now in the care of a network of volunteer "ad-hocs" who keep the classic attractions running as they always have, enhanced with only the smallest high-tech touches. Now, though, it seems the "ad hocs" are under attack. A new group has taken over the Hall of the Presidents and is replacing its venerable audioanimatronics with new, immersive direct-to-brain interfaces that give guests the illusion of being Washington, Lincoln, and all the others. For Jules, this is an attack on the artistic purity of Disney World itself. Worse: it appears this new group has had Jules killed. This upsets him. (It's only his fourth death and revival, after all.) Now it's war: war for the soul of the Magic Kingdom, a war of ever-shifting reputations, technical wizardry, and entirely unpredictable outcomes. A Texas Crossroads Bar & Grill

I own a small town bar and grill in the heart of Nowhere, Texas. My name is Mac McIntyre. My bar and I play host to the numerous characters passing through. First there's Hank, a well-known country and western star, who employs Jerry, a highly skilled and just as highly paid chauffeur. I've always wondered why a chauffeur would study Zen philosophy and every form of martial arts, but then again, I guess it's none of my business. Then there's Hank's sister, Sam, who just moved in, much to the disdain of Noreen, the resident air-head with a knack for sleeping around and hating girls prettier than her. Of course, I have no complaints against Sam, I owed Hank one. Besides, it's been a while and I needed a new waitress anyway, not that I'm trying anything. And Juan, the young boy living just over the border, can't be here every day to help. His English isn't even that great. Then there are the rest of the residents of my bar here at the crossroads, all just trying to enjoy a drink without having to kill each other, or maybe just Noreen, first. I've already been to Vietnam. I don't want to fight in any other wars. Author Bio: I was born in West Palm Beach in the same hospital six years after Burt Reynolds. Raised in Miami until I was 18, I then relocated to Cape Canaveral in '61-62. I studied engineering, but became an entertainer during the folk music craze. I don't know how, but the Original Seven astronauts sort of adopted me and before I knew it, I was an entertainer for the next 25 years. No matter where I was singing, my boss would receive a call from one of the astronauts to let me off long enough to be booked into the Cocoa Beach Ramada Inn lounge, where I appeared for every flight from Mercury through the last Apollo mission. I've lived in Los Angeles for almost 20 years, while on the road most of that time, and played in clubs from San Diego to Prince Albert, Sask. Canada (in the dead of winter, I might add.) I've been married 27 years and now reside in my husband's hometown of Jackson, Ms. keywords: Ghost Town, Saloon, Old West Opera House, Harley Davidson, Mystery, Love Story Texas, Dallas, Country Entertainer, Country Music
