The title of the novella is almost an adequate summary in itself. The "boy-meets-girl-then-loses-her" story is universal but not, I think, banal - despite a surprise ending which notoriously turns out to be very little of a surprise. First Love is given its originality and poignancy by Turgenev's mastery of the piercing turning-point (akin to Joyce's "epiphanies") that transforms the character's whole being, making a tragic outcome inevitable. Even the nature symbolism is rescued from triteness by lovely poetic similes - e.g. "but at that point my attention was arrested by the appearance of a speckled woodpecker who busily climbed up the slender stem of a birch-tree and peeped out uneasily from behind it, first to the right, then to the left, like a musician behind the bass-viol."
First Love Devotions is written from the authors rich experience of over fifty years as a pastor and teacher. One of the dangers a pastor faces is becoming mechanical and professional and losing the first love that motivated him to devote his life as a servant of God. The best safeguard against that is maintaining a loving, intimate daily fellowship with Jesus as you seek his guidance in understanding the scripture. If you find your love for Jesus waning, do a thorough job of repentance as you renew and cultivate this relationship. Each first-love devotion treats a passage of scripture and gives insight based on prayerful reflection as it relates to personal experience. In addition to personal spiritual benefits, the Christian worker will find a wealth of topics, sermon prompts, and illustrative materials that may be shared with others.
From the New York Times bestselling author of Walking the Bible and Abraham comes a revelatory journey across four continents and 4,000 years exploring how Adam and Eve introduced the idea of love into the world, and how they continue to shape our deepest feelings about relationships, family, and togetherness. Since antiquity, one story has stood at the center of every conversation about men and women. One couple has been the battleground for human relationships and sexual identity. That couple is Adam and Eve. Yet instead of celebrating them, history has blamed them for bringing sin, deceit, and death into the world. In this fresh retelling of their story, New York Times columnist and PBS host Bruce Feiler travels from the Garden of Eden in Iraq to the Sistine Chapel in Rome, from John Milton’s London to Mae West’s Hollywood, discovering how Adam and Eve should be hailed as exemplars of a long-term, healthy, resilient relationship. At a time of discord and fear over the strength of our social fabric, Feiler shows how history’s first couple can again be role models for unity, forgiveness, and love. Containing all the humor, insight, and wisdom that have endeared Bruce Feiler to readers around the world, The First Love Story is an unforgettable journey that restores Adam and Eve to their rightful place as central figures in our culture's imagination and reminds us that even our most familiar stories still have the ability to surprise, inspire, and guide us today.
This is a story of how I survived sexual abuse, molestation, attempted murder on my life many times, rape, drug abuse, prostitution and how God brought me out of them all without a scratch. If God can bring me out, He can bring you out of whatever it is you are going through. Nothing is impossible for God. I was abused, neglected, raped, drugged, and so many more heinous, monstrous and dreadful acts were committed against me by my mother, my lover, the one who was supposed to love and care for me was the one who betrayed, deceived and failed to protect me. She meant it for harm, but God meant it for good. 2 Corinthians 4:8-18 (KJV) says “We are troubled on every side, not distressed; we are perplexed, not in despair; persecuted, not forsaken; cast down, not destroyed; always bearing about in the body the dying Jesus, that the life of Jesus might be made manifest in us. For we are always delivered unto death for Jesus' sake, the life of Jesus might be manifest in our flesh. So then death worketh in us, but life in you. We, having the same spirit of faith, knowing that he which raised up the Lord Jesus shall raise up us also by Jesus, and shall present us with you. For all things are for your sakes, that the abundant grace might redound to the glory of God. For we faint not; but our outward man perish the inward man is renewed. For our light affliction, which is for a moment, worketh for us a far more exceeding and eternal weight of glory; while we look not at the things which are seen, but at the things which are not seen: the things which are seen are temporal; the things which are not seen are eternal.”

Hello! My name is Harminme Love, pronounced harmony, and first, let me say thank you for choosing to read my book. I figured just my songs alone werent enough, and I should tell the stories that inspired them as well. Just like Tomika, I started out writing poetry at a young agearound twelveand it was when I turned thirteen when my first song was written. Writing songs was not something I set out to do and was due to my mothers disciplinary actions, where it all began. My mother would beat me repeatedly till one day, hitting me would no longer break me down, and I physically acquired a numbness to her lashes on my flesh.
